Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is an &Beyond lodge perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, with thirty suites in three camps built from timber, stone and thatch in a Maasai-homestead style. Chandeliers, four-poster beds and a private butler for each suite give it a distinctive, ornate look.
Please note that one operator listing reports the lodge is closed for a full refurbishment from January 2025 until January 2027. We confirm the current status and the reopening date before we quote or book.

Crater game drives
Guided game drives run early in the morning or late in the afternoon, or you can spend a full day in the crater with a picnic lunch.
Walks and Empakaai Crater
Nature walks around the lodge are led by a naturalist, and there are full-day walks in Empakaai Crater.
Olduvai Gorge and Shifting Sands
For stays of three nights or more, a day trip to Olduvai Gorge and the Shifting Sands is offered.
Cultural visits
Maasai cultural visits can be arranged, and there is a children’s programme for guests who bring older children.
Access & location
The lodge is about an hour and a half by road from Lake Manyara airstrip, on the crater rim in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We arrange your transfers once we have confirmed that the lodge is open for your dates.

Each of the three camps has its own lounge and dining area, with a domed dining room with a fireplace and an outdoor deck. Meals are a buffet breakfast and lunch and a three- or five-course dinner, and the lodge has a wine cellar, a safari shop and in-room massage. No pool or spa is listed.

Each suite has a four-poster king bed, a freestanding bath beside floor-to-ceiling windows, a private veranda, a wood-burning stove and a private butler. There are three family suites. The lodge is not suitable for children under six because of the balconies, decks and walkways, and guests are escorted after dark because the property is unfenced.
