Detailed itinerary of 7 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Tour
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, you will be picked up by our guide from your preferred pick-up location after which you will set off for Akagera National Park. On arrival, check in at the lodge and have lunch. Later go for an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema, as you glide on the calm waters, you will enjoy sightings of several animals including elephants and buffaloes coming to the shores to drink water and several bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park
After your morning breakfast, you tour guide will drive you to the park’s northern section of a game viewing experience. This region is an ideal area for game drives and spotting the wild animals thanks to its lush open savannah grasslands. Some of the animals you expect to see in the park include Maasai giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elephants, hippos and crocodiles among others.

Day 3: Akagera National Park to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Enjoy early morning breakfast after which you will embark on a journey down south to Nyungwe Forest. Along the way you will have a stopover at Nyanza Palace for a tour of the palace which was a traditional home for Rwanda’s former kings and for lunch. Continue to the park arriving in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and Afternoon canopy walk
Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing at 8 am. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the chimpanzees, then head into the forest looking for these playful creatures. You will be allowed to spend one hour watching them play, feed and groom.
After your chimpanzee experience, you will return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will for a canopy walk.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you will depart north driving to Volcanoes National Park, along the way you will have a lunch stopover en-route to the park. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the gorillas. In groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes about 2 to 4 hours depending on their location that particular day, you will be allowed to spend only hour in their presence watching them go on with their life, watch them feed, play, pick fruits and groom.
After successfully tracking mountain gorillas, you will return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit the Ib’iwacu cultural village for local dances and drama among others. Dinner and over at the lodge.

Day 7: Golden Monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park and transfer back to Kigali
Have early breakfast and return to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about golden monkey trekking. You will find these beautiful primates in the bamboo forests where you will see them play, feed and take as many photos as possible. The whole experience takes about 1-3 hours, afterwards you will return to the lodge to pack up your belongings and transfer to Kigali where you will catch your international flight back home.
