Sipi River Lodge sits beside the Sipi River on the slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, with a view across to the falls for which the area is known. It is cool up here, green and full of birds, with coffee farms terracing the hillsides all around.
A small number of grass-thatched cottages look out towards the waterfalls, and the restaurant and bar share the same view. It is an active, outdoorsy place to stay, with waterfall hikes, coffee tours and Mount Elgon trails on the doorstep, and a quiet one for a change of pace after a longer safari.

Sipi is for people who like to get out on foot. The falls, the coffee farms and the mountain trails keep you busy for days.
Waterfall hikes
Guided hikes follow paths past the three Sipi falls, including a route to the top of the falls with wide views across the plains below.
Coffee tours
Walk through local farms and follow Arabica coffee from picked cherries to the cup, with a chance to roast your own.
Mount Elgon trails
Longer walks and expeditions climb the slopes of Mount Elgon, an ancient volcano straddling the Kenya border.
Abseiling and climbing
For the adventurous, abseiling beside the falls and rock climbing are available with local guides.
Birdwatching and cycling
The lodge garden and nearby trails are good for birds, and bikes can be hired for quiet rides through the villages.
Access & location
Sipi is in eastern Uganda, a long drive from Kampala, and it makes a natural stop on a route to or from Kenya or Kidepo. We arrange your transfers and can fit Sipi into a longer overland itinerary.
