Lake Nakuru National Park is a compact reserve in Kenya’s Rift Valley, built around a shallow soda lake once famed for enormous flocks of flamingo. Flamingo numbers now fluctuate from year to year with the lake’s water levels, but the park has become one of Kenya’s most reliable rhino sanctuaries, protecting both black and white rhino inside a fenced, well-patrolled reserve.
Its small size, easily covered in a single day, and its short drive from Nairobi make it a popular first or last stop on a Kenya safari circuit. Beyond rhino, the park holds lion, leopard, Rothschild’s giraffe and buffalo across compact, easy terrain, with Baboon Cliff offering a panoramic view over the lake and surrounding escarpment.
