This 6 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Rwanda Tour is ideal for visitors interested on tracking Rwanda’s primates, chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. both Nyungwe Forest and Volcanoes National Park are habitats to a wide range of primates.

Detailed itinerary of 6 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Rwanda Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

On arrival, our tour guide will pick you up from the Kigali International Airport and transfer you to your hotel of residence. Check in at your hotel and have lunch. After lunch, we shall embark on a Kigali City Tour with visits to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center and the Central Business District of the city. In the evening you will return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Have early morning breakfast served at the lodge after which you will embark on a journey south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have a stopover at Nyanza Palace for a tour of the palace which was a traditional home for Rwanda’s former kings, another stopover will be for lunch and continue to the park arriving in the evening.

Check in at the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and Afternoon canopy walk

Wake up early for breakfast, after which you will head to the park headquarters for briefing at 8 am. Nyungwe Forest is the largest montane rainforest in East and Central Africa and home to 13 primate species. After the briefing, you will head into the forests looking for chimpanzees on a trek of approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of these primates. You will be allowed to spend one hour watching them as they go on with their life in the forest, play, groom and feed.

After the morning chimpanzee tracking expendition, you will return to the lodge, relax and have lunch. In the afternoon you will go for a canopy walk in the park. This excursion offers incredible views of the rainforest and see several primates including black and white colobus monkeys and several bird species among others.

Day 4:  Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Have early morning breakfast at the lodge after which you will depart north driving to Volcanoes National Park. Have a lunch stop en-route to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the gorillas. In groups of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek, head into the forest looking for the gorillas on a trek of about 2-8 hours depending on their location on that particular day.

After successfully tracking the gorillas, you will be allowed to stay in their presence for an hour after which you will return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will go for a visit to the Ib’iwacu Cultural Village for local musical performances by local people among others. Dinner will be served at the lodge.

Day 6: Golden Monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park and transfer back to Kigali

Breakfast will be served early at the lodge after which you will set off for the Kinigi Visitor’s Centre for briefing. With the help of the park rangers you will head to the starting point and enter into the forest looking for golden monkeys.

Golden monkey tracking takes anywhere between 1-2 hours after which you will return to your lodge to pack up your belongings and transfer to Kigali City for departure flight back home.
