Detailed itinerary of 4 Days Uganda Gorilla and Golden Monkey Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Today after your breakfast at your hotel in Entebbe or upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide, he will give you a briefing about your Uganda Safar and what to expect. Embark on a journey to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Southwest Uganda, you will drive on the winding roads of thousand hills with magnificent views of the volcanoes. Along the way you will have lunch and when you arrive in the park, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight as you prepare for the next day’s trekking.

Alternatively, you can take a domestic flight from Entebbe to Kisoro Airport.

Driver time – 8 hours via Entebbe Or Scheduled Flight 1 hr 50 minutes

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the gorillas. in groups of 8 people, you will head into the misty forests of Mgahinga looking for the gentle giants on a trek that takes approximately 30 minutes to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night.

After locating the gorillas, you will spend one hour with them watching them interact with each other, play, feed and groom each other. You are allowed to take pictures as long as your flashlight is off. After this incredible encounter, trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and trek back to the park headquarters to collect your certificates, then head back to your lodge for an evening of rest. Or head to the Batwa Community for a cultural experience, interact with the Batwa pygmies, be entertained by local dances and drama, visit the local medicine man among others. Have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking

After a delicious breakfast, you will return to the park for your golden monkey trekking. Just like the previous day, you will be briefed about golden monkey trekking by a senior ranger, who will share information on what to expect while in the Virunga Volcanoes searching for the golden monkeys. After the briefing, you will start your hike up in search of the golden monkeys.

Porters are available for those interested and an enforcement officer will join you to help you in case you meet the wild elephants which can be dangerous. Unlike mountain gorillas, golden monkeys are swift in their movements unlike the gorillas and you will follow them as they feed. They love feeding on bamboo shoots among other foods like fruits, vegetation and sometimes ants.

You will be allowed to spend one hour with the golden monkeys before you start your descent back to the starting point, meet your guide and head back to your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Departure

Today marks the end of your adventure filled adventure. After breakfast, your driver guide will transfer you to Kigali City or Entebbe and you proceed to the airport for your flight home.
