DETAILED ITINERARY OF 10 DAYS UGANDA PRIMATE SAFARI

Day 1: Arrival Entebbe Airport – Kampala

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you shall be warmly welcomed by our representative – your private safari driver-guide and transfer to your hotel in Entebbe for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Kampala – Budongo Forest

Enjoy breakfast, meet your guide and embark on a journey to Budongo Forest through the famous Luwero Triangle and visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided walk with the rhinos, then continue to Masindi town where you will have lunch. Proceed to Budongo Forest, arriving late in the afternoon, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Budongo Forest Chimpanzee Trekking Tour – Murchison Falls Safari Tour

Have early breakfast and head to Budongo Forest for chimpanzee trekking experience, you will have a briefing session at the park headquarters conducted by a ranger guide. Then enter into the forest looking for chimpanzees, the trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 4 hours or more with one of being in the presence of these intelligent creatures, as you watch their behavior, take pictures and videos.

Return to your lodge for lunch, later drive to Murchison Falls National Park for a boat safari upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls stopping just a few meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron”. As you glide on the come waters, lookout for schools of hippos, crocodiles and elephants along the banks of the channel as well as several bird species including  Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork among others. Leave the boat and hike to the Top of the falls where you will see the world’s longest river exploding violently through a narrow gorge into the Rift Valley Escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43 meters below. Late, meet your guide, head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Murchison Falls – Kibale National Park  

After breakfast, you will drive south via Hoima head to Fort Portal through verdant countryside and past traditional homesteads and farms along the scenic Albertine Rift Escarpments. Have lunch in Fort Portal Town which rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon, proceed to Kibale Forest National Park arriving in the late afternoon, check in for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Kibale Chimpanzee Habituation Experience

Have early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee habituation experience. A senior guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow. Join your guides, researchers and scientists and head into the forest looking for the chimpanzees where they built their nests the night before.

You will spend a full day with the chimpanzees until they build their nests to sleep in, the day is filled with fun, take note of the behavior of the chimpanzees, learn to identify them individually by their markings that is scars and other unique features that make them stand apart from the rest. You will later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the most popular safari destination for game viewing. After lunch, you will return to the park for a game viewing on which you will enjoy sightings of wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, antelopes among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park  

Have breakfast and proceed to the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The region of the park is famous for hosting the rare tree climbing lions seen lounging on the branches of acacia trees and fig trees. On the drive, you will spot the rare tree climbing lions, buffaloes, antelopes and bush pigs among others.

After lunch, proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on a drive of approximately 4 hours. Arrive in the evening, check in your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Bwindi Gorilla Tracking Experience

After early breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking. A ranger guide will brief you about the trek and in groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas.

The trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on their movement and where they spent their previous night. Once you locate the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend only one hour in their presence taking pictures and witnessing their amazing characteristics which are similar to humans.

Return to the park headquarters, meet your guide and return to your lodge for an evening of relaxation, have dinner and spend the night. Alternatively, go a Batwa Community Visit for an interaction with the local Batwa people.

Day 9: Gorilla Habituation Experience

Head back to Bwindi’s park headquarters for briefing, this time for a gorilla habituation experience. This experience allows you four hours with a semi-habituated gorilla family, together with scientists and researchers, you will study various gorilla individuals, collect samples and identify each gorillas by their names and distinct structures.

Head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Bwindi – Entebbe

After early breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala with a visit to Igongo Cultural Village to explore and learn about the Bahima and Ankole Culture. Continue to Kampala, your guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight back home or to your next destination.
